Everyday Techniques-Background...December Daily Part 10

I've posted the last two layouts from my December Daily adventure and my list of Everyday Techniques.  I decided to focus on creating easy backgrounds using mixed media and Tim Holtz's new layering stencils.

O Christmas Tree

Bo Bunny Christmas Carousal paper collection
Technique Tuesday frames
Tim Holtz vintage photo, evergreen bough, forest moss, fire brick, and gathered twigs Distress Ink, Distress Oxide fossilized amber,  Tim Holtz Layering Stencil String
Ranger Archival Ink Coffee

My pages are 8 x 8, but I was determined to use this deer on one of my pages.  It is too large for the page so the antlers but a little cut does not diminish its design.

The paper is one of Bo Bunny's Christmas Carousel pages.  It is light green printed with a beautiful design.  I used Tim's layering stencil, String (new release), turned it on its side and inked the paper with Distress Ink evergreen bough, forest moss, gathered twigs.  I lined up the stencil and continue throughout…

Down the Stretch Let's Use a Sketch, December Daily part 9

I decided to use a couple of sketches for the next two layouts as I approach the finish of my December Daily albums.  When I choose a sketch I turn the sketch around, flip it, think inside out, and just how I would like to add my own flair.

Layout from Sketch 1
From this sketch by Paper Issues (Paper Issues Blog)

Bo Bunny Christmas Carousal paper collection, chipboard ornament
Tim Holtz Remnant Rubs, Distress embossing powder, chitchats holidays, Tiny Attacher, Vintage Photo Distress Ink

Prima rhinestones, Chatterbox letters
Bo Bunny's Chipboard ornament embossed with Tim's Distress embossing powder and Ranger's Tinsel embossing powder.  The flower fell off later and I liked it I left it off.

My December Daily mascot...the deer makes a perfect appearance on this layout with a bit of bling added.

I fussy cut the banner and star from the Bo Bunny collection.

I am not great at handwriting so I added Tim's Remnant Rubs words of encouragement for my gran…

Everyday Techniques: Popping Elements! December Daily Part 8

Highlighting die cuts and embellishments are a great way to add pop your pages.  It can be a challenge but I've learned "my page is my page" and I can do what I want!  LOL  Here are a couple of "my pages" for December Daily.

Getting Ready for Family
Another night of wrapping presents and getting ready for our family Christmas Eve.

Bo Bunny Christmas Carousal paper collection, chipboard ornament
Tim Holtz Flash Card Holiday, Alterations Packages & Bows, Thinlits Handwritten Love, Chitchat Holidays. Distress Ink Peeled Paint and Vintage Photo, Fastenater
Ranger Pearls, Glossy Accent, Stickles Diamond

I die cut "family" and "together."  It seems to fade into a very busy background so I used a fine point Sharpie and outlined the outer and inner edges and it brought out the words beautifully.

I had the same problem with this die cut.  Busy background and busy paper for the packages.  I popped it off the page by outlining the inn…

Everyday Techniques: Leftovers and Tiny Pieces with December Daily Part 7

I have been so frugal using my Bo Bunny Christmas Carousel paper collection that I believe I am going to have nearly a whole pack left over (I purchased 2 packs).  It is so much fun to use those small pieces from one page to the next.  I am a hoarder of "little pieces" of paper.  My goal is to start using a lot of those pieces.  I found what better way to add those finishing or creative touches than with a tiny piece of "leftovers."

Bo Bunny Christmas Carousel
Tim Holtz Typed Token Christmas, Typography Christmas, Vintage Photo Distress Ink, Jingle Bells brad
Buttons, Sequins, ribbon

The use of the sequins in a circle is nothing new, but I will warn them down!  The more my page moves the more they would come off.  I went back and added a bit more and stronger glue, but to assure yourself they will stay take a few moments and add the thread.

You can see the little leftover in several places including gingerbread items from another line…

Mixed Media with December Daily, Part 6

YES!  I finally edged out a page with more mixed media.

Bo Bunny Christmas Carousel
Tim Holtz stamp (trees), Distress Inks Spun Sugar, Gathered Twigs and Pine Needles, Stamp/Stencil  Watercolor Butterfly Set
Sizzix Winter Deer Thinlet
Spellbinders Building Snowman
Golden Glass Bead Gel
Aleene's Glitter Snow

Cover the whole page with Gesso.
Using Tim Holtz's stencil add Glass Bead Gel and let dry.
Because it dries clear rub on Spun Sugar Distress Ink.

Add stamps.  The tree trunk of the stamp is shorter than shown.  I just stamped the trunk twice, hiding where they come together under the photo.

Adhere photo and snowman die cut.

Use a spatula to add the glitter snow.  Let dry.

Add deer.  I use a mixed media medium to adhere to the snow.

Fussy cut flower and bell from Bo Bunny.  Add corner and Washi tape.

Merry Christmas
Little Story
Ali made Papa a Christmas Tree Cookie.  When she saw this page she asked for a copy of it.  "Sure."  "Mimi, next t…

Simple Techniques for Quick Pages, December Daily Part 5

I'm in the stretch with my pages.  These are more pages with simple techniques that you can use year 'round.  I haven't posted my pages in any particular order of date.
Bo Bunny Christmas Carousal paper collection, sticker border from Safari paper collection
Amercian Craft Thickers
Tim Holtz Oxide Ink Broken Glass, chit chat words
OI Star of David die cut
Prima flowers

I brushed a bit of Broken China Oxide Ink over the glittery title.

This was fun!  I have no idea where the metal flower came from.  I backed it with a translucent, plastic "paper."  Using Ranger's Glossy Accents laid down glue where I wanted to accent the flowers then poured in Martha Stewart's microbeads.  Dried and shook off access.  Some of the beads landed on the paper.   Accidental accents!

The scalloped border is from Bo Bunny's Safari.  It had a spotted leopard design.  I sanded it down a bit and added Mustard Seed Distress Ink.  Turned out cool.
